Soap slowly melting away in a pool of cloudy water on the
edge of a basin has to be one of the most distasteful sights
and certainly destroys any ‘designer’ bathroom
look.
Avoid this faux pas by installing a soap dish, whether it
is a freestanding model which sits on the edge of the basin
(see Bristan’s Arctic range) or a wall mounted version
which is drilled into the wall at easy-reach height (see the
Bristan Prism, Solo ranges). The latter allows you to keep
your basin area totally free of clutter which is a bonus,
particularly in more minimalist schemes, but choose the style
of your soap dish carefully.

Try to keep the style of the dish in accordance with the
rest of your bathroom décor, so if angles are the order
of the day then look for, at least, an angular mounting backplate.
Glass and chrome will of course suit a modern environment,
while a ceramic dish is a better option for a period feel.
Roughly cut, natural soaps piled on top of one another will
create a more opulent feel, whatever style of dish you opt
for.
