Traditional Bath Taps
If
you were to follow the purist route in terms of mimicking
traditional style, your bath would be made of tin and water
would be drawn from the stove and not from taps. Very few
of us would be prepared to sacrifice comfort in the pursuit
of such detail, so it is fortunate that there is such a diverse
range of taps now available.
In order to create the most authentic look, twin bath taps
are ideal, and if you can’t fit a shower into your bathroom
then a cradle bath shower mixer would be ideal as it spans
the two holes of your bath and allows the period style to
continue. If you opt for the latter look for models that feature
high standpipes and a flared spout - a classic hallmark of
an original-styled design such as the Trinity (bottom right),
Cardinal (top right) or Victoriana ranges from Bristan.
The
style of your bath taps should generally match those of your
basin for a seamless look, but bath taps don’t just
have to be larger version of their basin counterparts. Globe
taps, such as those from the 1901 and Renaissance ranges from
Bristan help to recreate all that bygone charm. Large, bulbous,
straight bodies are the hallmarks of this look and the taps
are mounted on the inside of the bath rim.
